Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 8 cups stale brioche or challah bread cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
For the Flavoring
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
For the Moisture
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Method
 

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking dish.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and brown sugar until frothy.
  3. Layer half of the cubed bread in the baking dish and pour half of the custard mixture over it.
  4. Add toppings if desired, layer the remaining bread cubes, and pour the rest of the custard mixture on top.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  6. Cool slightly before slicing into squares and serve warm.
